Culinary Adventures

We are fortunate in Provence to have an endless bounty of wonderful fresh produce, artisanal foods, beautiful fruits, almonds, and olives, locally produced olive oil and goat cheeses.  Visitors often ask why everything tastes so much better here? The answer is complex and easy at the same time. From animals who graze upon open pastures and fresh grasses – all perfumed by the herbs de Provence – which grow naturally throughout the countryside, the mistral winds which carry them, a very special terroir and the passion of its farmers and purveyors. Provence is a food lovers paradise!

France is all about food, and the French are obsessed with quality. They stridently support small artisanal shops and producers, and they know that without their support these wonderful food traditions would cease to exist.  Many specialty food shops still produce things the old fashioned way.

There are Truffles to hunt in our hillsides, Olives to pick, Herbs de Provence, Morrel mushrooms and wild Asparagus to forage, not to even mention the wine – which we taste and drink copiously!

Your vivacious host, Jane, will create an extravagant foodie excursion for you in which you will explore a beautiful Provencal market, specialty shops, farms, and introduce you to local food producers and purveyors.  She is very passionate about Provencal cuisine and will guide you on a culinary excursion full of the stuff every foodie will devour. An introduction to the terroir, the elements, and people that make the food so special in Provence.

'Jane will have you swooning with delight at her tastings! Loved her food stories, and recipes. Her foodie excursions are a foray into the dynamic world of local Provencal specialty foods.  We enjoyed learning how things are produced and meeting local people at the market. It’s a whole lot of fun with food!'  Barbara Clemens, Houston, TX

Half-Day Gastronomic Market Tour - Begin the day in one of my favorite local markets.  Meet the purveyors, enjoy tastings of artisanal products - olives and spreads, cheeses, cured meats, olive oils, chocolate, candied fruits, and confections.  Learn about how products are made, food lore, and Provencal recipes.  Finish our tour in a lively local cafe with a beverage toasting to the bounty of Provence.

Full-Day Foodie Adventure - This is a wonderful way to spend a day in Provence, an in-depth look at how food is produced, including the above-market tour in the morning, also visit a goat cheese farm, olive oil mill, and wine domains for tasting some of the areas best wines.
